Adlai

Old Testament

Adlai was responsible for overseeing King David's herds that were pastured in the valleys.

Adlai was the father of Shaphat, who served as the official in charge of the cattle pastured in the lowlands (valleys) during King David's reign (1 Chronicles 27:29). David's administrative system, recorded in 1 Chronicles 27, assigned specialized overseers to each category of royal livestock and agricultural holdings, and Shaphat son of Adlai held one of these positions. Adlai himself is known only through this paternal reference and plays no further role in the biblical narrative. His son's office indicates that Adlai likely came from a family with expertise in herding and animal husbandry.
