Anah

Patriarchs (Abraham–Joseph) Edom · H6034
Old Testament

Anah was a Horite, the father of Oholibamah, one of Esau's wives, and the discoverer of hot springs in the wilderness.

Anah was a Horite, the son of Zibeon and father of Oholibamah, one of Esau's three wives (Genesis 36:2, 14, 18, 24–25). He is credited with discovering the hot springs (Hebrew: yeimim, often translated 'water' or 'springs') in the wilderness while tending his father's donkeys—one of the few specific discoveries attributed to an individual in the Table of Nations section of Genesis. The precise meaning of yeimim is debated; some manuscripts read 'mules,' suggesting he discovered a breeding technique. Anah's daughter Oholibamah's marriage to Esau made the Horite clan an ancestral component of the Edomite people.
