Asiel

Divided Kingdom Tribe of Simeon · H6221
Old Testament

Asiel was a descendant of Simeon mentioned in the genealogy of the tribe (1Ch.4.35).

Asiel was a descendant of Simeon, listed as an ancestor of Jehu, a Simeonite prince who led the clan's expansion into the valley of Gedor during the reign of King Hezekiah (1 Chronicles 4:35–41). The Simeonites drove out the Hamites from the area and settled there, 'because there was pasture there for their flocks.' The tribe of Simeon occupied territory within and around Judah's southern regions and is notable for the diminishing of its numbers relative to other tribes over the course of Israel's history. Asiel himself is known only from this genealogical reference in Chronicles.
