Bebai was the head of a family that returned to Jerusalem from Babylonian captivity.
Bebai was the ancestor of a family that returned from Babylonian exile to Jerusalem under Zerubbabel, with 623 members according to Ezra 2:11 (or 628 in Nehemiah 7:16). A further group of twenty-eight men from his family returned with Ezra in the second wave of return (Ezra 8:11). Some of his descendants had married foreign women during the exile and were among those who agreed to Ezra's reform measures (Ezra 10:28). His family's substantial numbers made them a notable clan in the post-exilic community.
