Bethuel

Patriarchs (Abraham–Joseph) Early Patriarch · H1328A
Old Testament

Bethuel, the son of Nahor and Milcah, was the father of Rebekah, Isaac's wife.

Bethuel was the son of Nahor and Milcah, a nephew of Abraham, and the father of Rebekah and Laban (Genesis 22:22–23). When Abraham's servant traveled to Paddan-Aram to find a wife for Isaac, Bethuel and Laban received him and consented to Rebekah's marriage to Isaac, acknowledging that 'the thing comes from the LORD' (Genesis 24:50). Though Bethuel appears in the narrative, Laban takes the dominant role, suggesting Bethuel may have been elderly or ill at the time. Bethuel's significance lies primarily in being the father of Rebekah, through whom the covenant line continued.
