Eber

Divided Kingdom Tribe of Gad · H5677H
Old Testament

Eber was a Gadite chief during the reign of Jotham, king of Judah, mentioned in the genealogy of Gad.

Eber was a Gadite chief during the reign of Jotham, king of Judah, listed among the heads of the Gadite clans in their Transjordanian settlements (1 Chronicles 5:13). He appears in the register of Gadite leaders who maintained their tribal identity in the territory east of the Jordan River. He should be distinguished from the more prominent Eber ('Hebrew') in the Table of Nations (Genesis 10:21–25), from whose name some scholars derive the term 'Hebrew.'
