Divided Kingdom Tribe of Levi · H5867H
Old Testament

Elam was a temple gatekeeper during the reign of King David.

This Elam was a Levite gatekeeper during the reign of King David, listed as a son of Meshelemiah in the assignment of gatekeeping duties for the tabernacle and later the temple (1 Chronicles 26:3). He is one of several sons of Meshelemiah who served as gatekeepers at the north gate of the sanctuary. His name should be distinguished from Elam the son of Shem (Genesis 10:22), the ancestor of the Elamites, and from other men named Elam in the post-exilic community.
