Enosh

Early Patriarch · H0583
Old Testament

Enosh was the son of Seth, and during his time people began to call upon the name of the Lord.

Enosh was the son of Seth and grandson of Adam, born in the antediluvian period and recorded in Genesis 4:26 and 5:6–11. He lived 905 years according to the Masoretic genealogy, fathering Kenan and many other children. The note at Genesis 4:26—'At that time people began to call upon the name of the LORD'—is associated with Enosh's generation, suggesting he presided over a significant development in humanity's communal worship of God. His name means 'mortal man,' and he appears in Luke 3:38 in the genealogy of Jesus.
