The Girgashites were one of the Canaanite groups inhabiting the land promised to Abraham's descendants.
The Girgashites were one of the seven nations of Canaan dispossessed by Israel at the time of the conquest, listed repeatedly alongside the Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites in Deuteronomy 7:1 and Joshua 3:10, among other texts. In the Table of Nations (Genesis 10:16), the Girgashite is listed as a son of Canaan, grandson of Ham. Beyond these formulaic enumerations, little is known of their specific territory or culture, and they leave no independent narrative in the biblical record.
