Hanani

Old Testament

Hanani was a temple musician during King David's reign, assigned to the twenty-fifth division.

Hanani was a Levite musician, a son of Heman and brother of Giddalti, appointed by David to lead one of the twenty-four courses of temple musicians (1 Chronicles 25:4, 25). He is also the name of the seer who rebuked King Asa of Judah for relying on Aram rather than God in battle and was imprisoned for it (2 Chronicles 16:7–10), and of the brother of Nehemiah who reported the sorry state of Jerusalem to him in Susa (Nehemiah 1:2). The Levite musician Hanani represents the musical branch of Heman's family serving in David's carefully organized temple worship.
