Old Testament

Iddo, the son of Zechariah, was a leader of the half-tribe of Manasseh during King David's reign.

Iddo son of Zechariah was appointed by King David as the leader over the half-tribe of Manasseh that dwelt in Gilead, east of the Jordan (1 Chronicles 27:21). He was one of twelve tribal administrators in David's governmental organization, each overseeing the affairs of one of the twelve tribes or half-tribes. Iddo should be distinguished from two other biblical figures of the same name: the seer and prophet Iddo who wrote about Solomon and Jeroboam (2 Chronicles 9:29), and the grandfather of the prophet Zechariah (Zechariah 1:1).
