Old Testament

The Ithrites were a clan descended from Kiriath-jearim ( 1Ch.2.53 ), and two of David's mighty warriors, Ira and Gareb, were Ithrites.

The Ithrites were a Judahite clan descended from the families of Kiriath-jearim (1 Chronicles 2:53), the town where the ark of the covenant rested for twenty years before David brought it to Jerusalem. Two of David's thirty mighty warriors—Ira and Gareb—were Ithrites (2 Samuel 23:38; 1 Chronicles 11:40), giving this clan a place of honor in the Davidic military tradition. Their connection to Kiriath-jearim links them to an important site in the early history of the ark.
