New Testament

James, father of Judas who was also know as Thaddaeus, one of the Twelve Apostles chosen by Jesus.

James son of Zebedee was a fisherman from Galilee and one of the Twelve Apostles, called by Jesus along with his brother John. Together they were nicknamed Boanerges, 'Sons of Thunder' (Mark 3:17), reflecting their fiery temperament evident when they asked Jesus to call fire down on an inhospitable Samaritan village (Luke 9:54). James belonged to the inner circle of three—with Peter and John—who witnessed the Transfiguration (Mark 9:2), the raising of Jairus's daughter (Mark 5:37), and the agony in Gethsemane (Mark 14:33). He became the first of the Twelve to be martyred, executed by sword on the orders of Herod Agrippa I around 44 CE (Acts 12:1–2), an event significant enough to warrant brief mention in Acts amid widespread Herodian persecution of the Jerusalem church.
