Mary, the mother of John Mark, hosted a prayer meeting in her house.

Mary, the mother of Jesus, holds a unique place in the New Testament as the one chosen by God to bear the incarnate Son of God. The angel Gabriel announced to her in Nazareth that she would conceive through the Holy Spirit and bear a son to be called Jesus (Luke 1:26–38); her response, 'Let it be to me according to your word,' is celebrated as a model of faith and obedience. Her Magnificat (Luke 1:46–55) is one of the New Testament's most theologically rich hymns, echoing Hannah's prayer in 1 Samuel 2. She is present at key moments—the wedding at Cana (John 2:1–11), beneath the cross (John 19:25–27), and in the upper room at Pentecost (Acts 1:14). In Catholic and Orthodox theology she is accorded titles such as Theotokos (God-bearer) and Queen of Heaven, while Protestant traditions honor her primarily as a paragon of discipleship.
