Matri

Matri was the Benjaminite clan from which Saul son of Kish was chosen by lot to be the first king of Israel (1 Samuel 10:21). The lot narrowed from the tribe of Benjamin to the clan of Matri and then to Saul himself, though Saul was hiding among the baggage at the time. The Matrite clan is otherwise unattested in the Old Testament, and the name appears only in this single passage recording Saul's selection as king.
