Othni was a Levite, son of Shemaiah and grandson of Obed-edom, assigned as a gatekeeper of the temple sanctuary during David's organization of Levitical service (1 Chronicles 26:7). He is described as one of the 'able men' among Obed-edom's grandsons who were qualified to hold these positions of responsibility.
