Putiel

Exodus & Wilderness > · H6317G
Old Testament

Putiel was the father-in-law of Eleazar, son of Aaron.

Putiel was the father-in-law of Eleazar son of Aaron, meaning that his daughter married the second son of the first high priest of Israel (Exodus 6:25). Eleazar and his descendants through this union became the principal high priestly line of Israel after the deaths of Nadab and Abihu, a line that continued through Phinehas and dominated Israelite and Judahite high priesthood for much of the monarchic period. Putiel appears only in this single genealogical reference and his tribal origin is unspecified.
