Rehoboam was the son of Solomon and the first king of Judah after the division of the kingdom.
Rehoboam was the son of Solomon and the last king of the united monarchy, whose disastrous decision to increase the burden on the northern tribes led to the division of the kingdom circa 931 BC (1 Kings 12:1–24; 2 Chronicles 10). He reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, and his reign was marked by the invasion of Pharaoh Shishak, who stripped the temple and palace of their treasures (1 Kings 14:25–28). Though Rehoboam showed moments of repentance, his legacy was largely one of apostasy and political failure, resulting in the permanent fracture of David's kingdom.
