Shealtiel

Exile Tribe of Judah · H7597A
Old Testament

Shealtiel, the grandfather of Zerubbabel, was a descendant of David and played a significant role in the rebuilding of the temple after the Babylonian exile.

Shealtiel was the son of King Jeconiah (Jehoiachin) of Judah and the father of Zerubbabel, the governor who led the first return of exiles to Jerusalem and supervised the rebuilding of the temple (Ezra 3:2; Nehemiah 12:1; Haggai 1:1). He appears in the genealogies of Matthew 1:12 and Luke 3:27 as an ancestor of Jesus, representing the post-exilic continuation of the Davidic line.
