Parable of the Sower

Jesus' parable (Matthew 13:1-23, Mark 4:1-20) explaining why the gospel message produces different responses. A farmer scatters seed on four types of soil: the hard path (where birds devour it — those who hear but don't understand), rocky ground (shallow reception that withers under pressure), thorns (worldly cares and wealth choke the word), and good soil (those who hear, understand, and produce a crop of thirty, sixty, or a hundredfold). Jesus identified the seed as 'the word of the kingdom' (Matthew 13:19). The parable warns against superficial, distracted, and resistant reception while encouraging confidence that faithful sowing will yield an abundant harvest.
