Study Note
The final verse of Zephaniah promises 'at that time I will bring you again, even in the time that I gather you; for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the Lord.' The gathering motif (qabats/asaph) reverses the scattering of Deuteronomy 4:27 and the book's own judgment oracles (Zephaniah 1), completing the movement from 'remnant of Israel' (3:13) to glorified community among the nations. The phrase 'name and praise among all people of the earth' takes up the language of Genesis 12:2–3's Abrahamic blessing ('I will make your name great; you shall be a blessing to all families of the earth') and applies it eschatologically to the restored community, completing the covenantal promise. The verse stands as one of the most complete summaries of the prophetic restoration hope, combining gathering, witnessing, and universal recognition in a single promise.
