Adoption
The legal act of receiving someone as a child, used theologically to describe believers' status before God. Romans 8:15 declares, 'The Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father."' Galatians 4:4-5 explains that God sent his Son 'to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.' Ephesians 1:5 states God 'predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ.' Moses was adopted by Pharaoh's daughter (Exodus 2:10), and Esther was adopted by Mordecai (Esther 2:7). Spiritual adoption grants believers full rights as God's heirs (Romans 8:17).
