Adultery

20 verses

Sexual unfaithfulness within marriage, forbidden by the seventh commandment (Exodus 20:14). David's adultery with Bathsheba brought devastating consequences (2 Samuel 11-12). Proverbs 6:32 states, 'A man who commits adultery has no sense; whoever does so destroys himself.' Jesus expanded the commandment to include lustful looks (Matthew 5:27-28) and declared that divorce and remarriage can constitute adultery (Matthew 19:9). Yet Jesus showed grace to the woman caught in adultery: 'Neither do I condemn you... Go now and leave your life of sin' (John 8:11). The prophets used adultery as a metaphor for Israel's spiritual unfaithfulness to God (Hosea 1-3, Ezekiel 16).
