Advocacy

Speaking up for the voiceless and working to change unjust structures, rooted in God's own character as defender of the oppressed. Proverbs 31:8-9 commands, 'Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.' Isaiah 1:17 instructs, 'Seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.' Jesus challenged the exploitative practices of the temple establishment (Matthew 21:12-13). Moses advocated for Israel before Pharaoh. Esther advocated for her people before the king. The prophets advocated for justice in the courts and marketplaces.
