Blood

20 verses

The life-substance that carries the deepest sacrificial and covenantal significance in Scripture. Leviticus 17:11 declares, 'The life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar.' Passover lamb's blood protected Israel from the angel of death (Exodus 12:13). Moses sprinkled blood to ratify the covenant (Exodus 24:8). Hebrews 9:22 states, 'Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.' Christ's blood establishes the new covenant (Luke 22:20), redeems believers (1 Peter 1:18-19), cleanses from sin (1 John 1:7), and conquers the accuser (Revelation 12:11). Blood is the Bible's most potent symbol of costly, life-giving sacrifice.
