Death
The cessation of earthly life, entered the world through sin (Romans 5:12, Genesis 2:17) and is described as 'the last enemy to be destroyed' (1 Corinthians 15:26). Psalm 23:4 offers comfort: 'Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.' Ecclesiastes 3:2 acknowledges 'a time to be born and a time to die.' Jesus wept at the death of Lazarus (John 11:35) and then demonstrated his power over death by raising him (John 11:43-44). Through his own death and resurrection, Christ destroyed 'him who holds the power of death' (Hebrews 2:14). For believers, death is the gateway to being 'with Christ' (Philippians 1:23).
