Elijah's confrontation with Ahab after the Naboth affair — 'Hast thou found me, O mine enemy?' / 'I have found thee, because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the Lord' — is one of the most dramatically intense prophetic encounters in the Hebrew Bible. The metaphor of Ahab 'selling himself' to evil (mitmakar la'asot hara') echoes the slave-market and applies it to moral self-degradation, anticipating Paul's lament in Romans 7:14 ('I am carnal, sold under sin'). The episode follows the Naboth vineyard narrative (21:1–16) in which Ahab's initial passive regret is exploited by Jezebel into murder — demonstrating how covenantal failure corrupts the entire household structure. The meeting in the vineyard of the murdered Naboth gives Elijah's confrontation its geographical irony and contributes to the Hebrew Bible's theology of land, justice, and prophetic accountability.
