'Let us therefore draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need' — the exhortation follows the identification of Jesus as the great high priest who has passed through the heavens (4:14) and the declaration of his sympathy with human weakness (4:15). The 'throne of grace' (thronō tēs charitos) reframes the fearsome divine throne of Isaiah 6 and Revelation 4 through the lens of Christ's priestly mediation — the same holiness becomes accessible through the Son's intercession. The double gift — mercy (eleos, for past failures) and grace (charis, for future needs) — suggests that the throne supplies both retroactive forgiveness and proactive empowerment.
