Study Note

Jude's doxology — 'to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever, Amen' — closes the letter with a fourfold ascription (glory, majesty, dominion, power) that echoes both Davidic doxologies (1 Chronicles 29:11) and the throne-room visions of Revelation (4:11; 5:13). The application of 'Saviour' to God — unusual in the New Testament where the title more often designates Jesus — may reflect the Isaianic tradition ('I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour,' Isaiah 43:3) and serves to ground the christological doxology in monotheistic confession. The temporal scope 'both now and ever' (kai nun kai eis pantas tous aiōnas) expands the doxology to encompass past, present, and unlimited future, expressing the eternal character of divine glory. The verse is a model of liturgical doxology and has influenced the structure of Christian benedictions and closing prayers across traditions.
