Abdiel

Divided Kingdom Tribe of Gad · H5661
Old Testament

Abdiel, son of Guni, was a chief of a Gadite family during the time of Jotham, king of Judah.

Abdiel, son of Guni, was a chief of a Gadite clan settled in Gilead and Bashan during the reign of Jotham king of Judah (1 Chronicles 5:15). He is listed among the heads of houses in the genealogy of Gad and appears to have held tribal leadership before the Assyrian deportation of the Transjordanian tribes. His name, meaning 'servant of God,' reflects the theophoric naming conventions common in Israel, and he is the father of Ahi, another Gadite leader mentioned in the same passage.
