Ahimoth, also known as Mahath, was a Levite descended from Kohath, the son of Elkanah.
Ahimoth, also identified as Mahath in parallel genealogies, was a Levite descended from Kohath through Elkanah, and an ancestor in the line leading to Heman the singer appointed by David for temple worship (1 Chronicles 6:25, 35). The Levitical genealogies in 1 Chronicles 6 are among the most extensive in the Old Testament, tracing the musical and priestly families back to the three Levitical clans—Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. Ahimoth represents one of the intermediate links in the Kohathite line that produced the temple's chief musicians under David's reorganization of worship.
