Ard

Exodus & Wilderness Tribe of Benjamin · H0714G
Old Testament

Ard, a son of Benjamin, is listed among the descendants of Jacob who went to Egypt during the famine.

Ard was a son of Benjamin listed among the seventy descendants of Jacob who entered Egypt during the famine (Genesis 46:21; Numbers 26:40). In Numbers 26:40 he is listed as a son of Bela (Benjamin's firstborn), and his descendants were called the Ardites. The textual relationship between Ard, Addar, and Addar in the various Benjaminite genealogies is complex, with some passages treating them as the same person and others as different individuals within the same clan. As a founder of a Benjaminite sub-clan, Ard represents one of the original family groups of that tribe during the Egyptian sojourn.
