Old Testament

Asaiah was a Levite leader who assisted in bringing the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem during David's reign (1Ch.15.6, 11).

Asaiah was a Levitical leader from the clan of Merari, a son of Haggiah, who assisted in bringing the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem during David's second attempt at the transfer (1 Chronicles 6:30; 15:6, 11). He led 220 of his kinsmen who had been consecrated for the task, following David's realization that the first attempt had failed because the Levites had not carried the ark as prescribed. Asaiah's role illustrates the restoration of proper Mosaic protocol in the transport of the ark, a concern central to the Chronicler's theology of legitimate worship.
