Ben-ammi

Patriarchs (Abraham–Joseph) Ammon · H1151
Old Testament

Ben-ammi was the son of Lot's younger daughter and the ancestor of the Ammonites.

Ben-ammi ('son of my people') was the son born to Lot's younger daughter after the destruction of Sodom, conceived in an incestuous union (Genesis 19:38). He became the ancestral father of the Ammonites, an important Transjordanian nation that frequently interacted with Israel throughout the Old Testament period. The account in Genesis 19 explains the origin of both the Moabites (through Lot's elder daughter) and the Ammonites through the same shameful episode, reflecting the biblical genealogy's function in explaining ethnic origins.
