Bera was the king of Sodom who allied with other kings against Chedorlaomer.
Bera was the king of Sodom who joined the coalition of five Canaanite kings that rebelled against Chedorlaomer of Elam and his allies in the battle of the Valley of Siddim (Genesis 14:2). The coalition was defeated, and Chedorlaomer's forces captured Lot, Abraham's nephew, along with much plunder. Abraham subsequently pursued the victors and rescued Lot, an episode that led to his famous encounter with Melchizedek, king of Salem. Bera's request for the people but not the goods after the rescue illustrates the complex politics of the early Canaanite city-states.
