Ebal

Ebal was a son of Shobal and a descendant of Seir the Horite, listed in the genealogy of Esau's Edomite connections (Genesis 36:23; 1 Chronicles 1:40). He appears among the Horite clans that inhabited the region of Seir before Esau's descendants displaced them. His name is shared with Mount Ebal, the mountain of curses near Shechem where Joshua renewed the covenant (Joshua 8:30–35), though the geographical name and this personal name are historically unrelated.
