Isaac

Patriarchs (Abraham–Joseph) Early Patriarch · H3327
Old Testament

Isaac was the son of Abraham and Sarah, and the father of Jacob and Esau. God made a covenant with him, renewing the promises given to Abraham.

Isaac was the son of Abraham and Sarah, the second of the three great patriarchs of Israel, and the father of Jacob and Esau. His birth was miraculous, fulfilling God's covenant promise to the aged Abraham and Sarah (Genesis 21:1–7), and his near-sacrifice on Mount Moriah is one of the most theologically significant events in the Old Testament (Genesis 22). He married Rebekah, chosen by Abraham's servant from among his kinsmen in Mesopotamia (Genesis 24). Isaac lived to 180 years, dwelling primarily in the Negev region, and was marked by a more passive temperament than his father or son; his blessing of Jacob, though obtained by deception, carried irrevocable covenantal force (Genesis 27).
