Old Testament

Jachin was the head of the twenty-first priestly division organized by King David.

Jachin was the head of the twenty-first priestly division organized by King David for rotation of service at the sanctuary (1 Chronicles 24:17). The name Jachin was also given to one of the two bronze pillars erected at the entrance of Solomon's temple (1 Kings 7:21; 2 Chronicles 3:17), and it was borne by a son of Simeon in Genesis 46:10 and Numbers 26:12. The priestly figure of the same name in Chronicles heads a division whose descendants returned from exile (Nehemiah 11:10).
