Old Testament

Jehiel was a Levitical musician who played the harp and lyre during the reign of King David.

Jehiel was a Levitical musician appointed by King David to play the harp when the ark of the covenant was brought to Jerusalem (1 Chronicles 15:18, 20; 16:5). He played instruments of the second rank alongside other Levites in the great musical procession that David organized. The name Jehiel was common in the Old Testament and is shared by a number of other individuals, including an official in Jehoshaphat's administration (2 Chronicles 17:8), a Levite under Hezekiah (2 Chronicles 29:14), and several others in the post-exilic period.
