Oded

Old Testament

Oded was a prophet and the father of Azariah, who prophesied during the reign of King Asa of Judah.

Oded was a prophet of the LORD in Samaria, the father of Azariah the prophet who encouraged King Asa of Judah to pursue his reforms (2 Chronicles 15:1). A second prophet named Oded appears in the reign of Pekah of Israel, interceding on behalf of 200,000 Judahite captives and persuading the Israelite army to return them unharmed (2 Chronicles 28:9–11). Whether these references describe the same man or two different prophets of the same name is disputed; the chronological gap of over 200 years makes the latter more probable.
