Old Testament

Tahpenes was the queen of Egypt who gave her sister in marriage to Hadad the Edomite.

Tahpenes was the queen of Egypt who played a role in the political intrigue surrounding Hadad the Edomite, an adversary raised up against Solomon by God (1 Kings 11:19–20). Pharaoh gave Tahpenes's sister to Hadad as a wife, and she bore him a son named Genubath, whom Tahpenes herself weaned in Pharaoh's household. Her name and title indicate she was a woman of the highest rank in the Egyptian court, though nothing further is recorded about her personal history or background.
