Study Note

'In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.' This eschatological vision — Gentiles grasping a Jew's robe to join the pilgrimage to God — represents the culmination of Zechariah's vision of Israel's universal mission. It stands behind Isaiah 45:14 and 60:3's visions of nations streaming to Zion and ultimately behind Revelation 7:9's 'great multitude... of all nations.' Paul's argument in Romans 11:11-12 that Israel's stumbling has opened salvation to the Gentiles, who in turn will provoke Israel to jealousy, operates within the eschatological vision this verse expresses.
