Paul's assertion 'he must reign until he has put all enemies under his feet' applies Psalm 110:1 to Christ's present resurrection reign, depicting the interval between Resurrection and Parousia as a period of active subjugation of hostile powers. The passage is part of the carefully structured resurrection-sequence of 1 Corinthians 15:20–28, which distinguishes Christ's resurrection as first fruits, the parousia-resurrection of the faithful, and the final handover of the kingdom to the Father.
