Study Note
Peter's Pentecost sermon identifies Jesus of Nazareth as 'a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you' — beginning christology from the earthly life before moving to death and resurrection. The three terms (miracles, wonders, signs) form a stereotyped formula for divine attestation visible also in Hebrews 2:4 and 2 Corinthians 12:12. The remarkable phrase 'as ye yourselves also know' appeals to the audience's direct experience of Jesus' ministry — Peter does not ask them to believe a report but to interpret what they themselves witnessed. The sermon establishes that the resurrection (2:24-32) interprets, rather than replaces, the earthly Jesus, preventing a purely spiritual Christology.
