Old Testament

Adina, the son of Shiza the Reubenite, was one of David's mighty men and a leader among the Reubenites.

Adina son of Shiza the Reubenite was one of David's elite warriors and a captain over thirty men of his tribe (1 Chronicles 11:42). He is listed in the extended catalogue of David's mighty men in 1 Chronicles 11, which supplements the shorter list in 2 Samuel 23. The Reubenites, though the firstborn tribe of Israel, were often marginalized in later tribal hierarchies; the inclusion of Adina among David's champions reflects the integration of all Israel's tribes into the king's military establishment. His service exemplifies the pan-Israelite character of David's fighting force.
