Old Testament

Amon was the governor of Samaria during the reign of King Ahab of Israel.

Amon was the fifteenth king of Judah, son of Manasseh, reigning only two years around 642–640 BC. He continued his father's apostasy before the reported repentance, worshiping the idols Manasseh had made and abandoning the LORD completely (2 Kings 21:19–22; 2 Chronicles 33:21–23). Unlike Manasseh, Amon showed no penitence and 'increased guilt.' His reign ended violently when his own palace officials conspired against him and killed him in his own house. The 'people of the land' executed the conspirators and placed his eight-year-old son Josiah on the throne (2 Kings 21:23–24). Amon is remembered as one of Judah's most unremarkable and spiritually negligent kings.
