Arod

Exodus & Wilderness Tribe of Gad · H0720
Old Testament

Arod, son of Gad, was the founder of the Arodite clan (Gen.46.16; Num.26.17).

Arod (also spelled Arodi in Genesis 46:16) was a son of Gad and grandson of Jacob, listed among the seventy descendants of Jacob who entered Egypt during the famine (Genesis 46:16; Numbers 26:17). His descendants were called the Arodites, one of the seven clans constituting the tribe of Gad in Moses' second census. The Gadites settled east of the Jordan in the region of Gilead and were known for their military prowess; the warriors of Gad who joined David at Ziklag are described as 'mighty warriors, men trained for battle, expert with shield and spear' (1 Chronicles 12:8). Arod himself is known only from genealogical lists.
