Old Testament

Barachel the Buzite was the father of Elihu, one of the men who spoke to Job.

Barachel the Buzite was the father of Elihu, the fourth and youngest of Job's counselors, introduced in Job 32:2. He was of the family of Ram and likely from the region of Buz in northern Arabia, which was associated with the descendants of Nahor, Abraham's brother. Barachel is known only through his son, whose lengthy speeches in Job 32–37 present a theological alternative to the arguments of the three older friends, emphasizing God's sovereignty and the purpose of suffering in human formation.
