Old Testament

Benaiah, a Levite, played the lyre and served as a gatekeeper during the transfer of the ark to Jerusalem.

This Benaiah was a Levite musician and gatekeeper who played the lyre during the ceremonial transport of the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem under David (1 Chronicles 15:18, 20). He is distinct from the more famous Benaiah son of Jehoiada, David's chief of bodyguard. His role as a second-rank Levitical musician illustrates the careful organization of worship personnel that David instituted in preparation for the temple.
