Ebed

Exile > · H5651H
Old Testament

Ebed, a descendant of Adin, was among those who returned to Jerusalem with Ezra during the second wave of the return from Babylonian exile.

Ebed was the father of Gaddai who led fifty men of the family of Adin back to Jerusalem with Ezra during the second wave of return from exile (Ezra 8:6). The name Ebed means 'servant,' reflecting the common practice of humble naming in the post-exilic community. His son's leadership of one of the smaller family groups in Ezra's return party placed the Ebed family among those who actively participated in the restoration of Judah.
